A mobile court in Gabtoli Upazila of Bogura has sentenced three individuals to jail terms after recovering narcotics during an operation conducted by the Department of Narcotics Control (DNC).
The drive was carried out at around 12:30 pm on Wednesday in Sandabari Madhyapara village under Gabtoli Upazila.
According to officials, 200 grams of cannabis and one Tapentadol tablet were seized during the operation from the detained individuals.
The convicted individuals are:
Md. Likhon (25), son of Abdul Khaleq
Mst. Shefali Bewa (50), wife of late Abdul Khaleq
Md. Shakil (26), son of Md. Chaidur
All of them are residents of Sandabari village in Gabtoli, Bogura.
The mobile court, led by Assistant Commissioner (Land) and Executive Magistrate Md. Shamim Hossain, sentenced Md. Likhon and Mst. Shefali Bewa to six months’ imprisonment each along with a fine of Tk 100. Md. Shakil was sentenced to one month’s imprisonment and fined Tk 100.
Officials from the DNC Bogura ‘K’ Circle said the operation was part of ongoing efforts to curb drug abuse and trafficking in the region.
The seized narcotics were destroyed on-site following the court proceedings under the supervision of the magistrate.
Authorities reiterated their commitment to building a drug-free Bangladesh through continued enforcement drives and anti-narcotics operations.
