Bogura Celebrates New City Corporation Status with Joyous Procession
A jubilant procession was held in Bogura on Saturday to celebrate the government’s decision to elevate the municipality to a City Corporation, marking a historic milestone in the city’s administrative evolution.The “Ananda Rally” (Joyous Procession), jointly organized by the Bogura Press Club and the Bogura Cultural Forum, drew massive crowds. Participants expressed their gratitude to the government for approving the upgrade, which had been a longstanding demand of the local population. The official declaration on April 20 established Bogura as Bangladesh’s 13th City Corporation.The event kicked off at Shaheed Khokon Park, where the Chief Guest, Bogura Sadar MP and District BNP President Rezaul Karim Badsha, inaugurated the rally by releasing balloons and festoons. The procession then moved through major city thoroughfares, with citizens chanting slogans and celebrating the new status.Before the rally, a discussion meeting was held to highlight the benefits of this transition. Chaired by KM Khairul Bashar and moderated by Kalam Azad, the speakers emphasized that City Corporation status will, Accelerate Infrastructure: Faster road, drainage, and utility development.Enhance Services: Improved waste management and urban planning.Boost Investment: Attracting businesses to the "Gateway to North Bengal."The celebration saw a massive turnout from political leaders and civil society, including, Helaluzzaman Talukdar Lalu (BNP Chairperson’s Adviser), Rezaul Hasan Ranu (Bogura Press Club President),Freedom Fighter Shokrana and other veteran leaders.Representatives from the District Chhatra Dal and former city councilors.The elevation is being hailed as a transformative step for Northern Bangladesh. Stakeholders are optimistic that this change will move Bogura away from a traditional municipal structure toward a modernized, planned urban center, fostering a new era of economic progress.
