A commotion broke out during a meeting organized by the Bogra district administration regarding preparations for the upcoming Sharadiya Durga Puja, over leaders not getting the opportunity to speak. Expressing anger, leaders of the District Puja Udjapan Parishad walked out of the meeting. They later returned upon the request of Member of Parliament Rezaul Karim Badsha.
The incident occurred at around 11:00 AM on Monday in the conference room of the Bogra DC office.
Representatives of Puja Udjapan Committees from 13 upazilas of the district and Hindu community leaders participated in the meeting organized by the district administration. Rezaul Karim Badsha, Member of Parliament for the Bogra Sadar constituency and President of the district BNP, was present as the chief guest.
According to attendees present at the meeting, several representatives from the upazila-level Puja Udjapan Committees were initially given the opportunity to speak. After four or five speakers had finished, DC Md. Toufiqur Rahman cited time constraints and asked to keep the discussion brief. Following this, political leaders and representatives of law enforcement agencies delivered their speeches.
At this point, leaders of the District Puja Udjapan Parishad expressed anger as they were not given a chance to speak. Eventually, a few leaders, including Parimal Chandra Das, President of the Parishad, walked out of the meeting, creating a tense situation in the conference room for a short period.
Later, Member of Parliament Rezaul Karim Badsha spoke with the Puja Udjapan Parishad leaders, and they rejoined the meeting at his request.
Principal Bikash Chandra Saha, President of the Dhunat Upazila Puja Udjapan Committee, said, "I spoke for a brief moment. Before me, three or four other representatives had spoken. Afterwards, we were informed to shorten our remarks. Everyone present expressed dissatisfaction over this."
Parimal Chandra Das, President of the District Puja Udjapan Parishad, stated that such meetings between the district administration and representatives of the Puja Udjapan Committee happen only once a year. Representatives travel 30 to 35 kilometers from various upazilas with various problems and demands. They were aggrieved because they were not given the opportunity to speak this time.
Parimal Chandra Das added, "We attended the meeting upon the Deputy Commissioner's invitation. It is natural to feel bad if we do not get to speak after going there. If time was limited, the meeting could have been scheduled for another day. Later, we returned to the meeting at the request of MP Rezaul Karim Badsha."
However, DC Md. Toufiqur Rahman offered a different account. He said that the leaders of the district committee did not speak during the segment designated for the Puja Udjapan Committee. Later, while law enforcement representatives were delivering their speeches, they raised questions as to why they were not given time. They left the meeting feeling aggrieved over this and later rejoined.
Discussions at the meeting covered various topics, including the peaceful organization, security, and law enforcement situation for the upcoming Durga Puja.
