Alim,Bogura: Ms. Monika, a resident of Telkupi village in Gabtoli Upazila, Bogura, has been provided with a subsidized power tiller to promote modern agricultural practices in the region.​The power tiller, officially handed over on Sunday afternoon under the BRAC Microfinance Programme, is set to directly benefit approximately 700 people across 180 families in the Telkupi area.​According to local sources, Monika is a regular member of BRAC. Her family had been facing severe financial hardships for a long time, as her husband, Sohag Mia, is physically challenged. Despite Telkupi being an agricultural region, the absence of a local power tiller forced farmers to depend on external machinery for land cultivation. This reliance significantly increased production costs and often led to financial losses due to delays, preventing farmers from securing fair prices for their produce.​In recognition of Monika’s resilient struggle and the hardships faced by local farmers, the BRAC Microfinance Programme stepped in to support the community. Monika was provided with a powerful 16-horsepower power tiller, valued at BDT 180,000, under a 50% one-time matching grant (subsidy).​This initiative is expected to transform the household economy of Monika’s family while simultaneously boosting the agricultural economy of the entire area. A target has been set to cultivate approximately 250 to 300 bighas of land using this power tiller during the ongoing farming season.
